WARFIELD — Regina Smith found Harvest Fest Clue #2 at the mouth of Collins Creek on the sign.
This spot was once the location of “Warfield Salt Works.” According to the late historian Rufus Reed of Lovely, Warfield Salt Works occupied approximately 6 acres at the mouth of Collins Creek. The company distilled and shipped salt down the Tug River to Catlettsburg by steamboat.
Smith collected her $50 prize Friday in the PVA office.
Harvest Fest Treasure Hunt continues with Clue #3 printed in the Sept. 3 Mountain Citizen. It is worth $50.
Clue #4 will appear in the newspaper Sept. 10 and is worth $100.
