INEZ — For the third Saturday in a row, all kids 18 and under will swim for free Aug. 2 at the Martin County Pool.

Deputy Judge/Executive Carolea Mills is the latest county official to receive a donation to cover the cost of admission, following the lead of Martin County Clerk Susie Skyles, who launched the effort last month.

Skyles secured the first donation July 19 from Ashwin Patel, manager of America’s Quick Mart, and followed it up July 26 with a contribution from Sheila Maynard, owner of Professional Cleaning Services.

Mills picked up the torch this week with a gift from an anonymous donor.

“It’s heartwarming to see members of our community step up in such a generous way,” Mills said. “When people are willing to give anonymously simply to make a child smile or give families a day of joy at the pool, it speaks volumes about the spirit of Martin County. These quiet acts of kindness are making a real difference for our kids and our community.”

Adults over 18 must still pay admission, while children 12 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Mills also announced the pool season, shortened this year by repairs and the start of school Aug. 6, will continue on weekends through Labor Day.
