ELKHORN CITY — An armed man was shot by a homeowner and arrested Monday after allegedly forcing his way into a residence in Elkhorn City, police said.

Troopers from the Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post responded to a 911 call just before midnight June 30.

The initial investigation revealed that 44-year-old George Standifur of Elkhorn City entered a residence with a firearm and threatened the homeowner and family members. The homeowner then shot Standifur, wounding him, and forced him from the home.

Police found Standifur later in an alley nearby, still armed.

Troopers negotiated with Standifur for several hours before safely taking him into custody.

EMS transported Standifur to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Authorities then transported him to the Pike County Detention Center.

He faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, third-degree terroristic threatening, resisting arrest, second-degree disorderly conduct, menacing, and alcohol intoxication in a public place.

Trooper Nick Taylor is leading the investigation. KSP personnel assisted on-scene.
