INEZ — Head coach Jason “JJ” James has concluded the summer session with his Martin County High School boys basketball team.
The squad played numerous games at Hazard, Johnson Central and Pike Central.
Down two against Perry Central, Brayden Marcum hit a game-winner with time running down in games at Pike County.
“We played well at times but there were several games where we struggled to get the ball in the paint,” Coach James said.
With a younger team than he is used to, the Cards will be looking to shock the 57th District this year.
“We have a long way to go,” said James. “We have to get stronger and faster. We do have some really good spot-up shooters, but we have to be able to put the ball on the floor and create our own shots.”
Bryson Dials will be a leader running point with Marcum and Aidan Copeland expected to get a lot of minutes.
Alan Moore looked like a new player this June. With five months until the season starts, Moore has upside and will look to get time in the paint for the Cards as a senior.
Eli Mills will be a threat behind the arc for the Cards.
Devan Maynard has not been with the team due to work and focusing on football. The power forward will be a difference-maker for Martin County when he takes the court.
“Hopefully we can put in the work this summer and fall and be ready to go when the season starts,” Coach James finished.
