INEZ — Martin County High School girls basketball team has been busy this summer. The Lady Cardinals hosted a camp and workouts and played several games in the tri-state area.

The team traveled June 3 and 4 to Greenup County for the Battle of the Borders. The Lady Cards defeated Fleming County in their first game of the evening 61-31. In the next game versus Morgan County, the Cards would have a chance to win it with under a minute to play. However, Morgan County nailed a few clutch free throws to win.

The Lady Cards played the next day in the Silver Division again. Defense was the name of the game for this one, and Martin County defeated St. Albans 52-46. MC lost in the championship game later in the day to place second in the Silver Division.

The team hosted the annual Ball of Fame Camp for three days. There was no rest for the weary, and June 6, they played East Carter and West Carter, winning by more than 30 points.

On Thursday at Lawrence County, the ladies went 2-1.

The team traveled to East Tennessee and went 1-2 for the weekend.

The Lady Cardinals will host the Rising Summer Games at Martin County High School June 13, 14 and 17.
