PRESTONSBURG — A man is dead and his 22-year-old daughter is behind bars accused of his murder, according to the Prestonsburg Police Department.
Police said Summer Adkins, 22, of Prestonsburg, called 911 late Monday night and told dispatchers she had shot her father inside their home.
When officers and emergency medical personnel arrived at the residence on Kentucky Route 321, they found Jimmy D. Harvey, 62, deceased in a chair. Floyd County Coroner Greg Nelson determined Harvey had died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The coroner sent the deceased’s body to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy.
Adkins remained at the scene, where police arrested her on a single count of murder.
Detective Dennis M. Hutchinson is leading the investigation, which authorities described as ongoing.
Police have not released a possible motive.
This is a developing story.
