INEZ — Gavin Parker Watts of Martin County High School signed a national letter of intent on May 2 at MCHS to continue his academic and athletic career playing basketball at Kentucky Christian University. Watts plans to study business management.
Watts is the son of Jeremy and Kristy Watts of Fort Gay, West Virginia. He obtained a 3.7 GPA while playing basketball and football.
Watts joined the 2000-point club this season as a Cardinal on his way to an All ‘A’ and 57th District Championship.
He finished as the 15th Region runner-up with Martin County making the All-Tournament and All-Region teams. He made a name for himself and was a 15th Region Player of the Year candidate.
Watts was ranked No. 7 in the state of Kentucky in scoring averaging over 27 points per game.
During the winter break, he led the Cards to a runner-up finish in Tampa, Florida.
In Watts’s junior season he set numerous scoring records at Tolsia High School including the most points scored in a game with 55. He finished the year ranked third in the state in scoring and was West Virginia Class A Second Team All-State.
He was honorable mention in both his freshman and sophomore seasons and was invited to participate in the Top 60 showcase.
The Cardinal superstar received numerous offers from colleges, including visits to Wake Forest and UPIKE. He chose KCU after they extended an offer early in his junior year.
The multi-sport athlete was also a star on the football field. He was a regional runner-up and district champ with the Cards this year.
In his junior stint with Tolsia, Watts was named West Virginia Class A Honorable Mention.
Watts is a member of the Fort Gay Men’s Basketball League, his church’s youth group, and he likes to sing and dance.
