INEZ — The Lady Cards softball team dropped a nail-biter in the final inning at Magoffin County 4-3 on April 29. Paintsville took the district matchup on May 1 with a 9-0 win. Martin County sits at 8-10 overall on the season and 5-5 in the 15th Region.
Hitting at leadoff against Magoffin, Bella Muncy scored straight out of the gate for the Lady Cards. Haley Robinson, batting at the two-slot, showed deuce on the scoreboard after she made it home.

Magoffin took a 3-2 lead at the end of the first inning. Muncy responded in the top of the third after she slammed a double to the outfield fence. The Cardinal tied the score up after Robinson drove her in.
Zoie Hinkle kept the Hornets at bay until the bottom of the sixth when Magoffin took the lead. Three errors in the outfield spelled doom for the Lady Cards.
The squad made contact in all three at-bats in the final inning but couldn’t make it on base.

Hinkle had herself a night despite the loss. She pitched all six innings tossing 75 pitches. She struck out 10 Hornet batters and allowed only four hits while walking only three. The hurler went 1-3 at the plate with a single.
Muncy finished with a double hitting 2-4. She scored two runs in the close loss.
Robinson went 1-3 with an RBI and crossed home for a score.
Alyssa Mullins finished with a single.
In the 9-0 loss to the Tigers, Keilan Jewell rang out a single and stole a base. Kaylee Endicott stole two bases.

On the mound, Hinkle struck out two batters and allowed only one hit.
Mullins tossed 45 in the loss and struck out four Tigers.
The Cards will host Johnson Central on May 7 in a doubleheader.
Magoffin makes their way to Inez on Friday for a rematch.
Martin County will host their senior night May 13 against Prestonsburg.
