Honor labor and love of mothers

On this Mother’s Day, we turn our attention to the women whose quiet strength sustains families and communities.

Motherhood is not a role confined to biology or tradition. The calling takes countless forms, all grounded in a devotion to others.

It is the grandmother stepping in when needed, the foster mother embracing children as her own, the working mother balancing shifts with bedtime stories, and the stay-at-home mother who tends to the everyday rituals that shape young lives.

It is also the woman whose heart bears the grief of loss, the ache of longing, or the complexity of fractured relationships.

This day belongs to them, too.

In places like Martin County, motherhood often wears the face of resilience. It is obvious in meals stretched with creativity, in scraped knees tended with care, and in homes built with perseverance and hope.

These are the unsung acts of love that form the backbone of life everywhere.

Mother’s Day cannot be reduced to flowers and cards, though those tokens have their place. This is a time to acknowledge the labor behind the sentiment: the constancy, courage and emotional and physical heavy lifting.

To every mother and mother figure in all your forms: thank you for who you are and what you do.

We see your grit and grace.

Happy Mother’s Day.
