Mason McCoy to continue football career at KCU

INEZ — Mason McCoy, a senior football player at Martin County High School, signed on April 18 to continue his academic and athletic career at Kentucky Christian University. He plans to study pre-law before attending law school.

McCoy is the son of Steven and Michelle McCoy of Hode. He attained a 3.957 cumulative GPA and scored 31 on the ACT.

McCoy played defensive end for MCHS and recorded 102 tackles, including nine for a loss during his senior season. He had three sacks and forced two fumbles.

McCoy has received the National Society of High School Scholars football scholarship at KCU, the Lusby Excellence Scholarship Award and qualified for the Governor’s Scholars Program.

He was a member of the academic team in 2024. He placed second in quick recall, fifth in science during districts, and qualified for regionals in 2025. He placed second in quick recall and fifth in individual testing in math and science during districts.

At FBLA 2024 McCoy placed first in the region for supply chain management. He was fourth in the state of Kentucky for Supply Chain Management and qualified for nationals. In 2025, he placed fourth in the region and fifth in the state.

McCoy regularly attends Hode Church of God.

The football star is also a member of the Martin County High School Travel Club.

He has been in the Gifted and Talented program since the third grade for social studies, language arts and mechanics.
