Chris Newsome
1947—2025
Chris Newsome, 77, of Marrowbone Creek, Kermit, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville.
Chris was born June 28, 1947, on Marrowbone Creek, where he lived his entire life. He was the son of Noah and Florence (Sartin) Newsome.
Chris married Ruth Alley on June 15, 1968. They were married for nearly 57 years and had three sons, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Chris worked 32 years at Pontiki/Excel mines and was known by all as “Chief” for being a knowledgeable and experienced electrician. He was a faithful member of Big Elk FWB Church in Beauty.
Chris is preceded in death by his parents and his loved ones, James Sartin, Willie Newsome and Noah (Junebug) Newsome.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth; his sons Chris Jr. (Nona) Newsome of Hode Chad (Denise) Newsome of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Trever Newsome of Marrowbone; his grandchildren Larissa (Ethan) Stacy of Louisa, Krista (Dylan) Runyon of Hode, Tyler (Breanna) Delong of Inez, Charity (Anthony) Riggs, and Corinna Newsome of Jenny’s Creek, West Virginia; great-grandchildren Holden, Chandler and Jocelyn Stacy, Sawyer Runyon and Laikley Riggs; and loved ones Keither (Snook) Newsome, Rick Romans and Joyce Sue Marcum.
Chris was well-known for his jokes, riddles and brain teasers. He enjoyed hunting, camping, watching westerns and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. As we mourn the loss of our beloved father and grandfather, we rejoice in the knowledge that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
We look forward to the day we meet him again.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at Martin County Healthcare Facility for their excellent care and support of Chris and his family. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 2 at 11 a.m. at Callaham Funeral Home in Warfield with Warnie Pinson. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
