Janet Gail (Harmon) Day

1969—2025

Janet Gail (Harmon) Day, beloved wife, mother and “Mamaw,” passed away Feb. 20,‬ ‭2025, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter and unwavering devotion to family and friends.‬ She had a heart as bold as her favorite cherry apple red—the color of her first car, a 1969‬ ‭Mustang, which she drove fearlessly into a new chapter of life in Columbus, Ohio, from Martin‬ ‭County, Kentucky.

A protector at heart, she was a mother to anyone who needed one. She‬ loved deeply, spoke her truth without hesitation, and found joy in dancing, singing karaoke, and‬ ‭her favorite ice cream flavors.

Janet was born Oct. 31, 1948 to the late Oscar and Evelyn (Coleman) Harmon and spent‬ her childhood in Pilgrim, Kentucky. She attended Morehead State University and retired from‬ ‭Discover Card Services in Columbus, Ohio in 2008.

She was preceded in death by her sisters‬ ‭Emma Sue Butler and Lois Cassady, and her beloved son Benjamin, whom she missed dearly‬ ‭every day.

Janet is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, James Day of Grove City, Ohio; sons Brian‬ ‭ Day (Allison) of Canfield, Ohio, and James Day (Susan) of Granville, Ohio; grandchildren‬ ‭Kamrie Harvey (Katelyn) of Grove City, Ohio, Shelene, Joseph and Cecelia Day of Granville,‬ ‭Ohio, and Sienna, Greyson, and Stone Day of Canfield, Ohio; sister Diane Them of Mansfield,‬ ‭Ohio, brother Rocky Harmon (Teresa) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and many nieces and‬ ‭nephews.‬

To know Janet was to love her, and her memory will be cherished. A celebration of life took place Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2025 at Rader-McDonald-Tidd Funeral Home, West Jefferson, Ohio.
