Martha Gaye (Fugitt) Varney

1945—2025

Martha Gaye (Fugitt) Varney, 79, of Crum, West Virginia, passed away March 2, 2025.

She was born June 14, 1945, to the late Henry and Plina Vanhoose Fugitt. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers Edgel, Russel, Thomas, Hubert, Jimmy, Henry Jr, L.D. Fugitt; sisters Catherine, Louise, Mary and Dixie; as well as her spouse Donald Luther Varney. They were married in December 1967. He passed away May 19, 2004.

Martha was a Head Start teacher in Mingo County. She was a member of the East Kermit Church of God.

Survivors include her sons Geoffrey Varney of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, Jason Varney of Crum; daughters Donna Varney of Crum, Anita (Pastor Joey) Proffitt of Paynesville, Ohio; six grandchildren, Alaina McCartney, Caleb Proffitt, Ryland Varney, Joshua Proffitt, Bronwyn Varney and Eden Varney; one great-grandchild Teddy McCartney; and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral Services were conducted March 6, 2025, at East Kermit Church of God, with Denny Land officiating. Burial followed at Mt View Memory Gardens in Maher. Mullins Family Funeral Home is to serve the family.
