George Enos Marcum
1950—2025

George Enos Marcum, age 74, of Stepptown, West Virginia, passed away Feb. 20, 2025, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, due to complications from renal cell carcinoma.

He was born Dec. 11, 1950 in Beauty, Kentucky. He is preceded in death by his father Flem Marcum, his mother Nancy Marcum, and his sister Karen Howell.

George is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bobbie Marcum; son Matthew Marcum; family members Tim and Sandy Marcum of Dunlow, West Virginia, T.J. and Gail Stepp, of Stepptown, West Virginia, Judy Marcum and C.J. Williams of Winter Haven Florida; and family pet Miley.

George attended Crum High School and graduated in 1968. He went on to continue his studies at Pikeville College, graduating in 1973 with a degree in History and Political Science. George returned to his alma mater in 1974 teaching English, History and Civics. In 1977 he began a tenured career at Marrowbone Development Company, working as a Control Room Operator at the Tug Valley Processing Plant, where he eventually retired in 2003. George served six years in the Army National Guard and was a valued and long-standing member of the Crum Public Service Department.

In his free time, George enjoyed hobbies such as Civil War reenactments, genealogy and gun collecting, and was a loyal patron of the Kermit Public Library. He was a skilled craftsman and loved working with his hands. George was a dedicated member of his community and will be remembered for his kind heart and willingness to help others.

A Celebration of Life took place Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, at the Kermit First Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Danny Meade.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
