May sets 3-point record

INEZ — After cancellations and snow delays, Coach Robin Newsome’s Lady Cards went full steam ahead this week with two wins versus Phelps and Morgan County. The squad put up a valiant fight against district foe Johnson Central but fell short.
The following is a recap of last week’s action:
MC vs Morgan Co. – The Lady Cards traveled to Ashland Blazer to play Morgan County in the ‘Kitten Classic’ on Jan. 25. Martin County pulled away for a 59-48 win.
Maci Maynard led the way with a double-double firing in 12 points and grabbing 12 off the glass.
Young gun Makenna Marcum has been providing valuable minutes off the bench and bucketed 12 points along with one rebound.
Senior Candace Spaulding has continued her stellar play shooting 72% for 10 points and five rebounds.
Chloe May hit double digits with 10 points and six rebounds.
Brooke Marcum nailed eight points and pulled down five boards.
Sophie Harless contributed with seven points and four rebounds.
Annaleigh Davis grabbed a board for the Cards.
MC at Phelps – Three Lady Cards had a double-double while Chloe May had a record-setting night in an 86-49 victory at Phelps on Jan. 27.
The 3-point stud fired in seven from deep to set a Martin County High School record.
She finished the evening with a double-double performance scoring 24 points on 58% shooting and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Maci Maynard had a monster night with a 20-piece off the glass and bucketing 24 points in a stellar display.
The squad as a whole had 46 rebounds.
Team leader Candance Spaulding went off the hinges for a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Cardinal point guard Brooke Marcum poured in 10 points to go with two rebounds.
Sophie Harless and Makenna Marcum each added three points, with Harless collecting two boards.
Annaleigh Davis pulled two off the backboard.
