Sheriff John Kirk responded to reports of a man removing window screens from apartment buildings and carrying them through the parking lot. Upon arrival, Kirk found Jude passed out in a metal chair. Witnesses reported that before passing out, Jude had run head-first into a brick wall.

Recognizing Jude as someone who had previously fled and fought with law enforcement, Sheriff Kirk attempted to handcuff him while he was unconscious. However, Jude woke up and began resisting. He managed to escape on foot but was later apprehended on Route 292 by Chief Deputy Chris Kidd, who had been en route to assist. Sheriff Kirk stated that Jude attempted to flee from Kidd as well and “had to be taken down.”

Sheriff Kirk said Ayers had tapped into an American Electric Power (AEP) line after service to her home had been shut off. The unauthorized connection bypassed the meter base, posing a significant fire hazard.

“The garage and house could have burned due to this illegal hookup,” Kirk said.

AEP personnel arrived at the scene and removed the unauthorized connection.

According to the police report, Ayers refused to open the door after officers informed her she was under arrest. When law enforcement gained entry, she allegedly continued to resist and refused to comply with orders.

In addition to the theft and resisting arrest charges, Kirk cited Ayers for violating air pollution standards. He said she had been burning household trash in her driveway, prompting a complaint about a large fire. The sheriff noted that plastic and other waste materials were among the debris, producing a strong odor.
