PIKEVILLE — A structure fire in Pikeville on the night of Jan. 29 left one person dead, according to the Kentucky State Police.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene on Caney Drive at approximately 10:10 p.m. after receiving a 911 call, authorities said. Upon entering the residence, first responders discovered a deceased individual inside.

The body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and identification. Officials said the cause of the fire and the individual’s death remains under investigation, though no foul play is suspected.

Detective Dylan Mullins of the Kentucky State Police is leading the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by personnel from State Police Post 9 and the Shelby Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
