WARFIELD — Groundhog Hollow in Warfield was the scene of a family feud turned physical Friday—and it all allegedly started over “stolen” medication.
Elwood Robertson, 44, landed in jail after an altercation that Martin County Sheriff John Kirk says escalated into violence.
Robertson now faces charges of public intoxication of a controlled substance (excludes alcohol), prescription controlled substance in an improper container, and fourth-degree assault (domestic violence).
Law enforcement responded to a Groundhog Hollow residence after receiving a call about a violent confrontation. When they arrived, they found Robertson’s wife nursing head injuries, allegedly from multiple blows, and her mother with a bloodied nose, reportedly the result of a direct punch from Robertson.
Robertson claimed his mother-in-law had pilfered his medication—a grievance that sent tensions boiling over, authorities said.
Sheriff Kirk noted Robertson’s slurred speech, glossy eyes and a lack of balance. By his own alleged admission, Robertson had taken a cocktail of Xanax, Gabapentin and Fioricet.
When officers searched him, they found 18 Xanax pills in a bottle with 14 Fioricet, which originally had a prescription for 56 Fioricet.
