Nellie (Jude) Cornes
1940—2025

Nellie (Jude) Cornes, 84, of Williamson, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at Community Hospice of Ashland, Kentucky, on Jan. 14, 2025, after a courageous battle with a short illness. Her daughter Pamela Granger, son-in-law Tim Granger, and daughter Angelia Hardin were by her side.

Nellie was born Aug. 24, 1940, in Beauty, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Wilburn Jude and Alma Webb-Jude Sizemore.

In addition to her parents, Nellie is preceded in death by her husband, William Lee Cornes, daughter Debra Lynn Cornes and brothers Wilburn Jude Jr., Roy Jude and Don Jude.

Nellie started her career as a social studies teacher at Tug Valley High School in Mingo County. She earned her bachelor’s degree and her master’s degree +30 hours at Marshall University. She retired from teaching in Volusia County, Florida, where she was selected as “Teacher of the Month” at Ormond Beach Middle School. Her passion was teaching and her students.

Survivors include Nellie’s two daughters, Angelia Marie (Charles) Hardin and Pamela Leigh (Tim) Granger (Tim); two grandchildren, Ashlea Hardin Johnson (LaTorris) and Alexis Ransom; and three great-grandchildren, Lea Rose Johnson, Moana Adams and Roman Adams. She also leaves behind her sister Patsy Shannon McCoy and brother Moses Jude, both from Columbus, Ohio.

Darlene Hatfield was her very best friend.

Angelia’s significant other, Johnny Carroll, loved her very much. They loved talking politics especially Trump. Nellie was a huge Trump supporter.

Her sister-in-law, Dorothy Canterbury, loved Nellie very much as did many beloved extended families.

Nellie enjoyed many things in life, such as reading and traveling. She loved visiting Hawaii and living in Ormond by the Sea, Florida, for many years. She enjoyed the beach and the ocean.

Nellie was a faithful Christian who loved Jesus Christ with all her heart. She now has a place at the table with the many relatives and friends who have passed away. She is now rejoicing in peace and love from everything heaven has to offer. Her daughter Debra’s dachshund, Tinkerbell, was her little shadow and her grand-fur babies, Blaze Embers Granger and Christmas Snow (Chrissy) Granger and Ace Johnson. They all loved her so much.

A private family service will be conducted at a later date to be determined. Her final resting place will be the Warfield Cemetery alongside William, her husband and her daughter, Debra.
