Why must we go through trials?

Trials and troubles are a part of life. The Bible says about mankind: “For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. John 15:20 says Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you…”

Why does it have to be this way for God’s people? Why do Christians go through trials and troubles on every corner it seems?

God is in control. He knows exactly what you are going through and He is going to get you through. If you are not in open sin and rebellion against God, then be confident that there is nothing wrong with you. There is nothing wrong with your faith. There is nothing wrong with your God. God still loves you, cares for you. God is still on His throne. God has not moved or changed.

What you are going through is called “life.” It rains on the just and the unjust. This is a fallen world. We are not in heaven yet. What else would you expect from a vile wicked place?

We get the idea from fantasy that we should have heaven on earth! Where is that in the Bible? We are evil. We are sinners before a Holy God! Because of that, this world goes through trials every day. Animals eat each other. We have floods, hurricanes and tornadoes. We have droughts and storms. Things wear out and rust. If disease or accidents don’t kill us, we all eventually wear out and die.

The question is NOT “Why do bad things happen to good people?”

The Bible says that there is none good, no not even one! The Bible says we are wicked. The Bible says that we are without hope. The Bible says that we are haters of God. Why would God do anything good for us?

The question then becomes, “Why do good things happen to bad people.” We are given good days from the Lord. We who are wicked and evil are given beautiful things from a loving and kind God. We are given homes, jobs and families. God gives us beautiful sunrises and sunsets, beautiful oceans and beaches. God gives us breathtaking mountains and glorious valleys. We are given love and happiness. This comes from a good God. These are all blessings from God. God is all good and this is proven by the fact that He does good things for a fallen and evil world.

So rejoice, be happy, be hopeful. We must all go through trials but one day all trials will end. One day all suffering will end. One day all pain will end. One day all stress will be forgotten. One day this world will become what it was supposed to be before sin and rebellion by man ruined it. Isaiah 65:23: “They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.” One day the Bible says that the world will be at perfect peace. Isaiah 65:25: “The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.”

In the meantime since we must have trials how do we overcome them? We overcome them when we trust God through them and have complete confidence in Him. Isaiah 26:3: “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
