Two arrested on murder charges in Pike County shooting

PIKEVILLE — Two men are in jail on murder charges following a Saturday morning shooting in Pike County that left one man dead, authorities said.

Michael Brown, 41, of Feds Creek, is currently in the Southwest Virginia Regional Detention Center in Buchanan County, Virginia, awaiting extradition to Kentucky. The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office apprehended him Sunday evening without incident.

Meanwhile, Anthony Clyde Browning, 30, of Thacker, West Virginia, is in the Southwestern Regional Detention Center in Holden, West Virginia, awaiting extradition. Mingo County Sheriff’s deputies arrested him Monday morning.

Both men are charged with murder in the fatal shooting of 42-year-old Christopher Lester of Steele.

Kentucky State Police in Pikeville investigated the shooting Saturday morning at a residence on Laurel Creek where they found Lester dead from gunshot wounds.

The Pike County Coroner’s Office pronounced Lester deceased at the scene and sent his body for an autopsy.

Authorities have yet to disclose details about a possible motive for the shooting.

In addition to murder, both Brown and Browning face a charge of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
