Unflinching addiction drama delivers raw power
CITIZEN STAFF REPORT
Audiences who missed the opening weekend of the Appalachian-shot feature film “Hazard” due to recent snowstorms have more opportunities to catch it in theaters. The award-winning picture is held over for a second week at theaters across Kentucky and West Virginia, including Movies on Main in Inez.
Beginning this Friday, “Hazard” will also expand to new theaters in Lexington, Corbin and other locations.
Set against the backdrop of Hazard, Kentucky, this unflinching addiction drama delves into the opioid epidemic’s devastating grip on Appalachia.
At its core, Will, a reluctant drug dealer played by Alex Roe (“Billy the Kid,” “Forever My Girl”), faces hard life choices and tragedies as he attempts to break the cycle of addiction tearing his family apart.
With standout performances from Sosie Bacon (“Smile,” “13 Reasons Why”), Dave Davis (“The Vigil,” “Renfield”), and Steven Ogg (“The Walking Dead,” “Snowpiercer”), “Hazard” delivers a raw and profoundly moving exploration of human resilience and tragedy.
As tensions mount within the community, Will faces pressure from a local police officer (Dave Davis), an old high school friend. He must find the strength to confront his own addiction or risk losing his family forever.
The film, directed by West Virginia native Eddie Mensore, transcends the headlines to offer a nuanced portrayal of life in the throes of a crisis and the human toll of a nationwide epidemic. Its powerful storytelling and empathetic lens have earned “Hazard” widespread praise from critics and audiences alike.
Movies on Main will show the film Thursday at 7, Friday at 7 and 9:20, Saturday at 3, 5:20 and 7:30, and Sunday at 3:30 and 6.
Ticket prices: Adult $8, Student $7, Child-Senior-Military $5.50, Matinee $5.
