Cards win Hatfield & McCoy 32

PIKEVILLE — Martin County High School went feuding at the Hatfield & McCoy 32 over the weekend in Pike County and brought home the title after capturing first place with 258.5 points.

Fifteen Cardinals placed and John Cline was named Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Cline captured first in the 113 lb division by first pinning Casey Owens of Greenup County in two minutes and 16 seconds.

In his semifinal match Cline mercied Maverick Moore of Boyd County in three minutes and eight seconds.

Cline pinned Mikey Clark of Union in just under three minutes to capture the title.

Jeremy Mollett brought home another first place for the Cardinals in the 106 lb weight class. He pinned Hunter Crabtree of Greenup County in only one minute and six seconds in the quarterfinals.

Mollett won by decision in the semis over Liam Skinner of Rowan County.

The feisty matman won by a 4-0 decision in the first-place match over Kai Drapala of Manatee.

Parker Maynard stepped atop the podium for a first-place finish in the 144 lb weight division.

Maynard quickly pinned Clarence McDade of Ashland Blazer with a time of one minute and 17 seconds in the quarterfinal round. He pinned Gabe Redmond of Manatee in three minutes and 26 seconds to enter the championship match.

After tussling around for a while, Maynard pinned Cooper Scott of Pikeville in three minutes and 21 seconds for the first-place trophy.

Chase Stacy (150 lb), Weston Jude (157 lb), and Cole Jewell (175 lb) took second place in their respective divisions.

Stacy pinned Pike Central’s Mason Hess in the second round in only one minute and 25 seconds.

Jude pinned Payden Ratliff of Belfry in one minute and nine seconds in the quarterfinal match.

Jewell pinned Harlan County’s Braydon Cole in one minute and 29 seconds in the second round.

Jack Cline placed third in the 126 lb weight class. Cline had two quick matches after pinning Harrison Groves of Ashland Blazer in only 43 seconds and Derek Adams of Belfry in 34 seconds.

Julian Stafford (132 lb), Jake Stafford (157 lb), James Begley (165 lb), and George Lemaster (175 lb) brought home fourth-place finishes for Martin County.

Jeremy Begley (138 lb) finished fifth in his respective division.

Bailey Crum (165 lb) and Payton Lowe (HWT) finished sixth.

Ryan Smith placed eighth in the 215 lb weight class.

The squad will host the Cardinal Duals on Jan. 4 in Inez.
