INEZ — Martin County’s Brittany Thompson will play basketball and softball at Alice Lloyd College. She signed with the Lady Eagles on a basketball scholarship May 19 at the Martin County High School auditorium. Alice Lloyd Women’s Basketball Coach John Mills was in attendance, along with Thompson’s family, coaches and teammates.

Thompson is the daughter of Mary and James Thompson. She averaged six rebounds, four steals and four assists per game. She had a .486 batting average with 35 hits this season and stole 21 bases.

Martin County Basketball Coach Robin Harmon says Thompson is a workhorse.

“She played a huge role in our team’s success this past season,” Harmon said. “She helped lead us to an undefeated 8-0 Conference Championship, 23-win season, a 57th District title, and to the semifinals of the regional tournament.”

Mills’ current Lady Eagles team features former Martin County alumni, including Thompson’s sister Madison. Madison Thompson recently led Alice Lloyd to a NAIA Championship this past season.

Coach Mills is ecstatic for Thompson to be joining his team.

“Brittany is a very solid defensive player,” said Mills. “She has the ability to help strengthen our full-court press system and improve our transition offensive game.”

Thompson’s athletic ability is only one of the many areas in which she shows promise.

“I recruited her because she is aggressive and has a huge upside,” noted Mills. “She has a strong faith and it shows through her character.”

Brittany also participated in soccer and volleyball during her high school career. She is grateful for the opportunities that Alice Lloyd College will provide her.

“I get an opportunity to further my education and play the sports that I love,” Thompson said.

She plans to continue improving her game over the summer while also working as a CNA.
