Country music has become very popular over the last few years and has crossed genres. There are many great country songs, but there are also those with funny titles and lyrics that can make you chuckle.
Here are a few of those that might bring a smile to your day.
Perhaps my all-time favorite was written by one of the kings of novelty songs, Ray Stevens. He penned, “Get Your Tongue Outta My Mouth Cause I’m Kissing You Goodbye.” That song title says it all and definitely makes me laugh when I hear it. It is the ultimate funny breakup song.
How about “You’re The Reason Our Kids Are Ugly,” sung by the duo of eastern Kentucky’s own Loretta Lynn and her singing partner Conway Twitty? Twitty’s name itself is funny when you think about it.
The late Little Jimmy Dickens, my fellow West Virginia native, wrote “May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose.” This title says it all.
Another West Virginia native popular in today’s country music is Brad Paisley. He penned “I’m Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin’ Song).” The song tells the tale of a man whose girlfriend has threatened to leave him if he goes fishing instead of staying home with her. You guessed it. The man has chosen to go fishing, saying he will “miss her when he gets home.”
