MOUNTAIN CITIZEN
This week, we pause to honor an athlete whose impact shined not only on but off the basketball court and whose spirit will forever be felt in our community: Kennadi Mollett, #23 for the Lady Cards Class of 2024 and a current University of Pikeville cheerleader.
Kennadi tragically lost her life in a car wreck Nov. 26, leaving behind a legacy of strength, positivity, and an unwavering love for her family, friends and teammates. She was not only a standout basketball player for the Lady Cards but also a dedicated cheerleader at Martin County High School (MCHS) until she graduated in 2024, and at UPike as she made an impression on everyone who crossed her path.
As a starter for the Lady Cards basketball team, Kennadi was instrumental in helping lead her team to two 57th District Championships and over 90 victories during her high school career. Her commitment on the court was matched only by her character off it. A natural-born leader, Kennadi’s hard work and determination inspired her teammates to push harder, aim higher and believe in themselves—whether on the hardwood or in life.
Beyond basketball, Kennadi’s infectious smile and laughter brought joy to everyone around her. She had a unique ability to light up any room she walked into, leaving an unforgettable mark on her friends, teachers and coaches. Kennadi was more than an athlete; she was a friend, a role model and a beacon of positivity.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Kennadi signed a cheerleading scholarship to attend the University of Pikeville, where she planned to pursue a nursing degree. Her passion for helping others and making a difference was evident, and she was set to continue her education and career in service to others.
Though her time with us was far too short, Kennadi’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her determination, her laughter, and her unrelenting positivity will be remembered not just in sports but in the way she touched lives every day.
Kennadi Mollett may no longer be with us in person, but her spirit will forever be a part of the Lady Cards, MCHS and this community. We honor her memory, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Kennadi. You will never be forgotten.
