Some people are never happy. A Jewish lady’s grandson is playing in the water. She is standing on the beach not wanting to get her feet wet, when all of a sudden, a huge wave appears from nowhere and crashes directly over the spot where the boy is wading.
The water recedes and the boy is no longer there. He simply vanished. She holds her hands to the sky, screams and cries, “Lord, how could you? Have I not been a wonderful mother and grandmother? Have I not given to Bnai Brith and Haddasah? Have I not tried my very best to live a life that you would be proud of?”
A few minutes later another huge wave appears out of nowhere and crashes on the beach. As the water recedes, the boy is standing there, smiling, splashing around as if nothing had ever happened.
A loud voice booms from the sky, “Okay, okay, I have returned your grandson. Are you satisfied?”
She responds, “He had a hat.”
We are never satisfied with the things of this world. We never can get enough of things it seems. Everybody wants things. And when you get the things you want then you want more things. When is enough enough?
Nothing this world gives you will ever be enough. We were not created to find peace apart from God. We will never find peace until we find it in Him.
Matthew 11:28-29: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
Once we find Him we have found true satisfaction and joy. We will never need anything more or anyone more than we need Him.
As someone aptly stated, “Jesus does not just want to be resident in you; He wants to be president in you.” When we relinquish our struggles and find our rest in Christ, then the winds of the storm may blow, but we find ourselves fixed upon the Rock. There we find true satisfaction.
Matthew Henry said, “When Christ died He left a will in which He gave His soul to His Father, His body to Joseph of Arimathea, His clothes to the soldiers, and His mother to John. But to His disciples, who had left all to follow Him, He left not silver or gold but something far better—His PEACE! You will be satisfied no matter what life throws at you.
Do you have His Peace? John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
