Big Sandy Area Agency on Aging celebrates caregivers

Big Sandy Area Agency on Aging proudly recognizes and honors family caregivers across our region and the nation during this special month. This observance shines a spotlight on caregiving issues, educates communities, and advocates for increased support for caregivers.

Celebrated every November, National Family Caregivers Month is led by the Caregiver Action Network (CAN), a nonprofit organization that provides free education, peer support and resources to family caregivers. The theme for 2024, “I Care,” emphasizes the importance of self-recognition and identity as critical elements in accessing essential caregiver support.

Big Sandy Area Agency on Aging offers several programs to assist caregivers in our region:

National Family Caregiver Program: This program supports caregivers who are caring for adults aged 60 and older, as well as grandparents 55 and older raising grandchildren. Services include information, assistance, respite care, supplemental services, counseling, support groups and training.

Kentucky Grandparents Program: Continuing into fiscal year 2025, this program provides assistance to grandparents of any age who are raising their grandchildren.

For more information or to determine eligibility, contact Melissa King, ADRC, at 606-886-2374. She can guide you through the process and make program referrals.

Let’s celebrate and support the caregivers who make a difference every day.
