INEZ — The Martin County Board of Elections will conduct a hand-to-eye audit of votes starting at 9 a.m. Thursday in the Martin County Clerk’s Office.
The audit is a new safeguard being put into place in Kentucky to ensure the accuracy of voting machines.
County boards of elections statewide will conduct hand-to-eye audits of votes cast in one randomly selected race from ballots tabulated by one randomly selected scanner.
The Kentucky Secretary of State will select the race and scanner Nov. 6 and notify the county the same day.
The counting will be done by the county board of elections, two volunteers and some of the clerk’s office staff.
The audit is open to the public.
