INEZ — One of Martin County Hall of Fame Coach Robin Newsome’s favorite things in the summer is doing youth camps like her Cardinal Ball of Fame Summer Basketball Camp set for June 6-8 at Martin County High School.
The camp offers boys and girls in grades K-8 three jam-packed days of basketball skills, drills, competition, agility, shooting, speed, ballhandling, fun and more.
“I love to watch the interaction between our players and the kids,” Newsome said. “It’s a chance for my players to pass down their wisdom to the younger kids. The bonds and memories they make during camp will stay with these kids forever, and most will become a part of the Cardinal Basketball family.”
The camp will be from 9 a.m. to noon each day.
All campers will get a T-shirt and basketball if they arrive on time. Awards will also be handed out at the end of camp.
“Getting better at basketball and giving back to the community is what it’s all about,” Martin County Lady Cards assistant coach Jason Wefenstette said.
Coach Newsome encourages all former players to stop in and help.
Special guest speakers and instructors will make appearances throughout the camp.
Assistant coach Alison Scott said, “The kids that attend these camps will one day be the kids that wear the Cardinal uniform just like I did. These kids are the future of our program.”
Camp staff will work a lot on basketball during the three days and make it three days of fun for the kids.
“Our coaching staff and players do a great job working with our future,” said Newsome. “You never know who might show up to speak and work this camp.”
Newsome loves having former players — girls and boys — come back to work the camp and give back to Martin County’s kids.
Cost for the three-day camp is $50, and Newsome will take the first 40 that sign up.
