Special Olympics bowling tournament returns Saturday

Special Olympics bowlers will gather at Bowl Rite in Prestonsburg on Saturday for the Special Olympics Kentucky (SOK) Area 3 & 9 Bowling Tournament. Organizers anticipate nearly 90 athletes—almost double last year’s participation—competing in the event.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 8:50 a.m., followed by singles competition at 9 a.m. Each athlete will bowl two games, with the highest combined score determining the winner in each division.

Athletes who win their divisions—and in some cases those who place second—will qualify for the State Bowling Tournament scheduled for Dec. 7-8 in Louisville.

The Area 3 & 9 tournament includes Special Olympics athletes from Bath, Breathitt, Carter, Fleming, Floyd, Johnson, Lawrence, Lewis, Magoffin, Martin, Mason and Pike counties.

Join them at Bowl Rite located at 94 Mayo Hollow.
