James Michael Nichols Obituary

James Michael Nichols
1972—2024

James Michael Nichols, age 52, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024.

Born June 30, 1972, in Pike County, he was the son of the late Eugene Nichols and Susan Horn Nichols.

Jamie is survived by his brother, David Eugene Nichols (wife Salena Dials), and his niece, Abby Danielle Nichols Gordon (husband Mason). He is also survived by the Bonnie to his Clyde, Laurie Goodlett, of Lawrenceburg.

Jamie cherished his many aunts, uncles and cousins from Inez, Ohio, and beyond. He embraced his role as (Uncle Bubba, Jamo and probably many others), and was a fierce supporter of all the children in our large family. Jamie loved nothing more than making them laugh and spoiling them rotten.

Jamie enjoyed streaming/watching his church services and listening to his gospel music while also embracing his competitive gaming with fellow gamers. He cherished his family and faith. He was also a huge sports enthusiast who continued to support his Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Reds and UK Wildcats even when they struggled.

A graduate of Sheldon Clark High School, he later earned his respiratory therapy degree and worked for a while at Riverside Healthcare in Prestonsburg. After his paralysis, Jamie attended the University of Kentucky and often joked that he “had more college hours than anyone else ever not to complete a degree,” as he often changed majors.

His charitable spirit will be missed because he found great joy in giving to others anonymously.

Jamie will forever be remembered for not letting health limitations define him and for continuing to live an influential life. He touched many lives through the tough challenges he fought to overcome. We are forever grateful for doctors, nurses and caregivers who always joined him in his perseverance and later became like family.

Visitation will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024, at the Callaham Funeral Home in Inez, with services immediately following. We will conclude with a graveside memorial at Dials Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you continue Jamie’s legacy in supporting those in need through the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
