Louisville woman charged with vehicular homicide in Magoffin County

SALYERSVILLE — A Louisville woman has been charged with vehicular homicide when under the influence after a three-vehicle crash in Magoffin County that claimed the life of one man, authorities said.

The Kentucky State Police responded to the crash, which occurred around 7:42 p.m. Oct. 4 at the intersection of U.S. 460 and Kentucky Route 114 in Salyersville.

Investigators determined that Sarah Spurling, 33, of Louisville, was driving a 2013 Toyota Avalon when she collided with a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Roger Arnett. Arnett was turning into a driveway when his vehicle was struck, sending it into the opposite lane, where it was hit by a 2006 GMC Sierra driven by Pernell Lemaster.

Arnett was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

Spurling was arrested and taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center. She faces charges including vehicular homicide when under the influence, driving under the influence, and first-degree wanton endangerment.

The crash remains under investigation by KSP Detective James Cress, who specializes in accident reconstruction.
