Brookie Alley
1934—2024
Brookie Alley, 90, of Hode, passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024, surrounded by her family at the Community Hospice in Ashland.
She was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Martin County to the late Joe Fletcher and Sara Ann Simpkins.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, George Alley; two siblings, James Harrison Fletcher and Elmer Fletcher; and Sula Fletcher, who raised her.
Brookie was a devoted wife to Pastor George Alley and a true ray of sunshine on even the gloomiest days. She had a warm and welcoming heart, always ready to be a mother figure to anyone in need. Her home was a safe haven for all—humans and cats alike.
Brookie had a passion for raising rabbits and chickens. She could talk endlessly on how to breed a specific rabbit. On sunny days, you could often find her in the garden, happily picking green beans or feeding her beloved chickens. She was known for her incredible generosity, never allowing anyone to leave her home hungry. Her strawberry pie was a family favorite, and her hugs were cherished by all who knew her.
Brookie’s kind and loving spirit will be missed by many, including her dear cats, rabbits and chickens.
Brookie is survived by her two children, Ronnie Joe Alley and wife Melissa of Ashland and Greg Alley and wife Malyssa of Hode; four grandchildren, Rhonda Alley, Sarah Alley, Alex Alley and Tayla Alley; and three great-grandchildren, Kiera Collett, Cole Collett and Emma Mae Collett. She also leaves behind one sister-in-law, Lorne Fletcher.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024, at the Warfield Chapel of the Callaham Funeral Home, with Lloyd Alley officiating. Burial followed at the Alley Cemetery in Hode. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
