WARFIELD — Martin County Middle School honored their upperclassmen Sept. 17 and came away with a 29-19 win over Adams.

Eighth-grader Annaleigh Davis put on a clinic in one of her final games as a middle schooler.

She scored the only Cardinal points in the first half to keep Martin County within reach. Adams went into halftime with an 11-7 lead.

Head Coach Boo Newsome must have provided some motivation for the Lady Cards in their home locker room because the Cardinals came out firing.

Davis knocked down two free throws coming out of the break and hit a floater.

Kennedy Mills stayed hungry under the basket and scored a putback and free throw to give Martin County an 18-17 lead at the end of the third.

Martin County found the will to win and went on a run in the final stanza. The Cardinal defense put the brakes on Adams and held the Blackcats to two points.

Davis knocked down a 3 from behind the arc and hit three jumpers in the fourth quarter to finish the night with 20 points.

Lexi Cline came in clutch with two key baskets with time winding down to open up the game for the Cards. She had four points on the evening.

Mills fired in five points for Martin County.

The B-team completely obliterated the Blackcats 49-8.

Harleigh Maynard and Zoe Sammons finished in double digits with 10 points each.

Alivia Stacy, Kinslee Callaham, and Emily Mills bucketed six points each for the Lady Cards.

KB Muncy fired in four points. Bradlynne Stafford nailed three points. Sammi Byrd and Autumn Combs added two apiece.

The Lady Cards were scheduled to host Tug Valley on Tuesday. Details were not available at press time.
