BELFRY — The Martin County High School is your All “A” 15th Region soccer champion after defeating Pikeville, Paintsville and Prestonsburg last week at Belfry.
Head coach Steven Gauze’s squad has now won five matches in a row.
On Sept. 3 the Lady Cards handed Pikeville a 6-1 loss in the opening round of the tournament.
Faith Caldwell booted in three goals and had two assists for the Cards. Laura Hale sent two in the net and assisted on one goal.
Grace Caldwell scored a goal and assisted on one. Emily Ledford had an assist.
Vittoria Dellmotta had seven saves as the goalkeeper.
The second round pitted the Cardinals against Paintsville on Thursday night. Martin County came to play and mercy-ruled the Tigers with a 10-0 score.
Hale and F. Caldwell shared scoring honors with five goals each and three assists.
Mia Preece assisted on two goals. Chloe Jude and Solene Gerard helped out their teammates with an assist each.
Dellmotta had two saves.
This win set up the championship match with Prestonsburg.
The Lady Cards pulled out the close victory with a 3-2 score.
F. Caldwell netted two goals. Hale booted one in and assisted on one. Ledford assisted on a goal for the All “A” title.
Dellmotta saved nine goals for the Lady Cards as the goalie.
Martin County was scheduled to host the first round of the state tournament in Inez on Tuesday (Sept. 10). Details were not available at press time.
