INEZ — Martin County is officially under a burn ban. Judge/Executive Lon Lafferty signed the executive order Monday citing the surge in forest fires statewide, a looming dry stretch, and growing concerns over public safety.

“These conditions also add a heightened risk to our firefighters and threaten the natural resources of Martin County,” Lafferty said in the order.

The ban, which prohibits all open burning, will remain in place until further notice.
