Salyersville man convicted on federal drug charges

PIKEVILLE — A federal jury in Pikeville convicted a Salyersville man Aug. 28 of possessing with intent to distribute significant quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl following a two-day trial.

Daniel Jackson, 57, was found guilty after evidence presented at trial revealed that on Feb. 7 law enforcement officers conducted a traffic stop of Jackson’s vehicle. During the search, officers discovered and seized over 70 grams of methamphetamine.

After his arrest, Jackson attempted to dispose of a bag of fentanyl inside the police vehicle.

Jackson was indicted May 23.

He is scheduled for sentencing Dec. 9 and faces a potential maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.

The announcement of the conviction was made by Carlton S. Shier IV, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Erik Davodowich, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Louisville Field Division; and Magoffin County Sheriff William “Bill” Meade.

The case was investigated by the DEA, the Magoffin County Sheriff’s Office, and Operation UNITE.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Drew Trimble is prosecuting the case.
