HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Veterans experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless are invited to a day of safety and support during a Stand Down event on Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Prestonsburg VFW Post 5839, located at 3106 South Lake Drive, Prestonsburg, Kentucky.
“The Stand Down is an opportunity for homeless Veterans and those at risk for homelessness to access free services provided through the VA and our partners in the community,” said Angela Miller, Homeless Program coordinator. “Veterans will be able to get basic medical screenings, haircuts, job and housing referrals and information about benefits, assistance programs, and a wealth of services.”
The Hershel “Woody” Williams VA Medical Center, in collaboration with local community partners, will co-sponsor additional Stand Down events across various locations in West Virginia and Kentucky throughout September, concluding in early October. Each event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates:
Sept. 11, 2024 — Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 314 Donnally St., Charleston, West Virginia.
Sept. 18, 2024 — Community Resource & Referral Center (CRRC), 624 Ninth St., Huntington, West Virginia.
Sept. 26, 2024 — Bob Amos Community Center, 127 Bob Amos Way, Pikeville, Kentucky.
Sept. 27, 2024 — Pride Community Services, 699 Stratton St., Logan, West Virginia.
Oct. 2, 2024 — Central Park, 615 22nd St., Ashland, Kentucky.
