HAGERHILL — Heroes and Legends Arm Drop Dragz is set to take place Friday and Saturday at Combs Airport.
This year’s theme, “Heroes and Legends,” will honor local racing icons, including Neil James, affectionately known as “the banjo man,” who has been a staple at the event for a decade.
The event, which organizers expect to draw thousands to the region, will feature a variety of activities, including a special tribute to disabled veterans through a scooter race, a reunion of the 460 Street Racers, and the continuation of the popular Big Wheel race for children.
A concert Friday night will feature local artists including Zoe Howard, Guns for Hire, and MotherCreek.
“This race brings thousands and thousands of people into Eastern Kentucky for a weekend packed with family fun, good times and fast cars,” said Gina Rose, president and founder of the Kent Rose Foundation, the event’s main organizer.
“There’s truly nothing like it in this region, and we’re so thankful to have the opportunity to bring it to life,” said Rose.
The event will also mark the 10th anniversary of Neil James’ first attendance, with a special recognition of his contributions to the local racing community. In addition to racing, the Kent Rose Foundation has initiated a podcast series to capture stories from past racers, further solidifying the community’s connection to its racing heritage.
Tickets are available for $10 for a one-day pass, $20 for a two-day pass, and $50 for a pit pass, with free entry for children under 12.
The event will also host numerous food vendors, ensuring a wide array of options for attendees.
“Kent Rose always had a vision of a better tomorrow for his community,” said Rose of her late husband and the Foundation’s namesake. “And we strive to make that our goal at every event we host. Let’s Shake and Bake for the Arm Drop Nation.”
This year’s event continues where last year’s “Arm Drop Revival” left off. The 2023 event marked the first “Kent Rose” race since 2014 and the first race at the Combs airport since 2018. Last year’s event drew significant attention, with over 160 competitors. The revival not only honored Kent’s legacy but also continued his vision of bringing the community together around drag racing, with proceeds supporting over 20 local programs, including scholarships, flood relief and resources for teens.
As one of the largest racing events in Kentucky, this year’s Arm Drop Dragz promises to deliver a weekend of high-octane entertainment and community spirit.
