Bertha Mae Sturgell

1957—2024

Bertha Mae Sturgell, 67, of Wayne, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House in Huntington.

Born March 12, 1957, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John and Noreena Thomas Ferguson.

Bertha is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lloyd Sturgell, and siblings, John L., Harvey, Willard, Clifton and Bonnie Ann Ferguson.

She was a mom, grandmother, housewife, waitress and quilt maker. Bertha was also a member of the Turkey Creek Baptist Church in Wilsondale.

She leaves behind her children, Harold David (Tara) Sturgell and Rachel (Benny) Moore, both of Wayne, and her grandchildren, Hailey (Jacob) Pinson, Maddie Grace Sturgell, Logan Kyler Moore (Bella Nicely), Landon Cole Moore and Maecy Lynnay Moore. Bertha also leaves behind her brothers, Halcey (Debbie) Ferguson and Woodrow (Margaret) Ferguson of Lynnwood, North Carolina; sisters Geneva Bowen of Louisa, Kentucky, and Ninnie (Elmer) Bradley of Dunlow; special friends Doris (Lonnie) Bradley and Shirley Horn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, at the Turkey Creek Baptist Church in Wilsondale.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, at the church, with Manuel Ferguson and George Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at the McClellan-Crum Cemetery in Dunlow. Mullins Family Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
