PRESTONSBURG — The Lady Cards and Cardinals represented Martin County in the Alice Lloyd College Showcase on July 30 at StoneCrest Golf Course. Junior Kenadie Evans led the way with an impressive 9-hole score of 45, securing first place in the 16-and-under division and second overall in the competition.
Senior Jaylee Deskins followed closely, posting a score of 46 to claim second place in the 18-and-under division and third overall.
Junior Hannah Swartz rounded out the top finishers for the Lady Cards, scoring 52 to earn third place in the 16-and-under division.
For the boys team, five Cardinals competed in the 9-hole showcase.
Sophomore Gavin Grace led the team with a score of 51, followed by junior Avery Duncan with a 53. Senior Drew Wilson recorded a 56, while freshman Ryder Duncan and junior Cole Damron completed the course with scores of 61 and 67, respectively.
Coach Boo Newsome noted that golf is “a demanding sport, especially during extremely hot weather.”
“We will keep practicing and improving,” she said.
