INEZ — The Martin County Senior Citizens Center will enhance its meal delivery service to seniors at home, thanks to a $10,600 grant from the Kentucky Colonels Good Works Program.

Center Director Jennifer Crum announced that the grant will be used to purchase a vehicle dedicated to meal deliveries.

“We are very thankful for the grant,” Crum said. “We deliver around 90 home-delivery meals a day and serve about 45 curbside. Around 15 seniors congregate for lunch inside the center.”

Crum invited Martin County residents to join her and other seniors at the center.

“Join us for lunch,” she said. “Or just come to make new friends.”

Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, inside the center at 123 Old Middle Fork Road. Seniors 60 and older can pay $2 for a meal, though payment is not required. Guests under 60 are required to pay $3 for lunch. Curbside pickup is available from 10 a.m. to noon.

The lunch menu for July 31 includes orange-glazed chicken, brown rice, stir-fried vegetables, pears and a roll.

Senior residents can request home meal delivery by calling 606-298-3459.

Crum noted that the Kentucky Colonels Good Works Program has previously assisted the center with purchases including a gas range, a generator, comfortable chairs for seniors and other items.

Annually, the program provides over $2 million in grants to Kentucky nonprofits, aiding more than 3.9 million individuals. These grants rely on the support of over 30,000 active Colonels worldwide who contribute to helping Kentuckians.
