INEZ — Martin County Sheriff John Kirk announced the new vehicle inspection fee schedule that went into effect with House Bill 833 on Monday (July 15).

Before HB 833, the vehicle inspection fee was set at $5. Going forward the fee structure includes the following:

• $15 vehicle inspections at the sheriff’s office.

• On-site vehicle inspection at residence or automobile dealership for first vehicle inspection is $15 plus a trip fee of $20 for $35 in total.

• Additional vehicle inspections on-site $15 each.

Inspections are performed in the county where the vehicle is being licensed and are meant to guarantee the vehicle is “road worthy” and safe.

To arrange an inspection, check with Sheriff Kirk’s office.

What will be inspected:

• The vehicle’s identification number or VIN

• Odometer reading

• Brakes

• Steering

• Lights and turn signals

• Window glass (must be in place)

• Front windshield wipers

The inspector will complete a Kentucky application for a certificate of title/registration form, which you take to the county clerk’s office to get your plates.
