WARFIELD — Martin County District 5 Constable Mitchell Bowen made quick work of solving a case of vandalism and theft at Warfield Park.
“Thanks to tips from the public, the person responsible for taking the flag from the park has returned the flag,” Bowen said. “Instead of filing charges, he will be paying restitution in other ways.”
The incident occurred in mid-April when vandals broke the flagpole, stole the flag, and took down the sign over the entrance to the Warfield Park Community Center. The vandals then pushed over the portapotty, turned over trash cans and made a mess.
“I just want to thank the people that called in,” said Bowen. “Without their help, it would have been much harder to solve.”
Martin County Sheriff John Kirk told park board members recently that he has surveillance cameras to donate. Judge/Executive Colby Kirk was making arrangements to get the cameras installed.
