Mr. Gayle Howard Horne
1938—2024

Mr. Gayle Howard Horne, 85, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center.

Mr. Horne was born Oct. 22, 1938, in Inez, the son of the late Floyd W. and Janie Fitzpatrick Horne.

He was a self-employed barber and retired bus driver for the Ohio School System. Gayle was an avid hiker and outdoorsman. He hiked a big part of the Appalachian National Trail. Gayle loved all flowers, including wildflowers, and was fond of sharing pictures of his beautiful flowerbeds with his friends.

He was a proud veteran who had honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. Gayle was a member of the DAV Chapter 141 and Honor Guard in Belfry, and after moving to Richmond, he joined the Madison County Veterans Committee Honor Guard detail. He had participated in hundreds of Honor Guard ceremonies.

Mr. Horne was a faithful member of the Unity Baptist Church and often referred to them as his family.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Lowery; one sister, Joyce McBride; his sisters-in-law, Betty Smith (Steve) and Donna Haney (Dwayne Welch); several nephews and nieces, including a special niece, Debby McBride; and special nephews, Blake and Carter Hamilton and Jordan Haney.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Gene, Lois, Edsel and Gary Horne.

Memorial Services were conducted Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Unity Baptist Church, 1290 Barnes Mill Road, with Pastor John Cravens officiating. Burial took place at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, is in charge of the arrangements.
