Martin County grand jury indicts suspects linked to Buck Branch burglary and guitar theft; four others

INEZ — A Martin County grand jury issued indictments Thursday against seven individuals, including three suspects linked to a recent burglary and theft of two valuable guitars from a residence in Lovely.

Garland Mills Jr.

Garland Mills, 50, of Pilgrim, stands accused of burglary in the second degree/complicity and criminal mischief in the third degree. According to the indictment, on March 22, Mills, alone or with James Hackney, broke into the home of William Small on Buck Branch in Lovely to commit theft. The grand jury also accuses him of damaging the door and threshold at Small’s house. His bail is $10,000.

James Hackney

In a related case, James Hackney, 41, of Lovely, faces a charge of burglary in the second degree/complicity. The indictment alleges that Hackney, with Mills, entered Small’s home March 22 with the intent to steal. His bail is $10,000.

Elizabeth Horn

In a third case linked to the burglary at Small’s home, Elizabeth Horn, 34, of Lovely, stands accused of receiving stolen property under $10,000 and possession of a controlled substance in the first degree (fentanyl). The indictment claims that on March 26, police caught Horn in possession of stolen items from Small’s home, including a 2017 Les Paul Guitar valued at $3,000 and a Crown guitar valued at $500. The indictment accuses her of having fentanyl on the same date. Her bail is $500.

Daryl Damron

Daryl Damron, 61, of Prestonsburg, faces a charge of theft by unlawful taking over $1,000. The indictment states that on May 10, Damron stole a wallet from Elmer Hammond of Louisa at Horn’s BP in Tomahawk. The wallet allegedly contained approximately $2,000 in cash and various credit and bank cards. His bail is $5,000.

James McCoy

James McCoy, 53, of Pilgrim, will face charges of possession of a controlled substance in the first degree (methamphetamine), operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, first offense, no registration plate, and failure of the owner to maintain required insurance, first offense. According to the indictment, McCoy committed these offenses Jan. 11. His bail is $5,000.

Chad Nichols

Chad Nichols, 40, of Lovely, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance in the first degree (methamphetamine), operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, first offense, no registration plate, and failure of the owner to maintain required insurance, first offense. The indictment states that Nichols committed these offenses March 25. His bail is $5,000.

Scott Thompson

Scott Thompson, 36, of Warfield, is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance in the first degree (methamphetamine) and possession/use of drug paraphernalia. Thompson allegedly committed these offenses April 25 when he was caught with methamphetamine and a syringe. His bail is $5,000.
