INEZ — Martin County High School announced Friday that Dr. Michelle Harless has been hired as the new principal.
Harless fills a vacancy left by the untimely death of principal Brian Charles in November 2023.
A 23-year veteran educator, Harless shared her excitement in a social media post, saying, “I have dedicated my life to education and advocacy and am thrilled to return to our high school.”
Harless’ educational journey includes a bachelor’s degree in Music Education, a master’s degree in school counseling, and a doctorate in educational leadership.
Since joining the Martin County School District in 2001, she has served as band director at Inez and Warfield Middle schools, band director at Sheldon Clark High School, school counselor at Sheldon Clark High School/Martin County High School, and most recently as the Martin County Head Start director.
“I am deeply committed to upholding our school’s traditions and values,” said Harless. “My primary focus is on our students and supporting them to achieve their full potential. I will foster a positive school culture where every student feels a sense of belonging and is empowered to excel.”
She added, “I believe in collective abilities – the students, the staff and the community – and aspire to see our school recognized for excellence in academics, the arts, sports and in cultivating outstanding individuals. Together we can elevate our high school and shape the future of Martin County by nurturing innovative, compassionate, intelligent and hardworking students.”
Harless and her husband David live in Inez and have two children, Dovie and Wesley.
