Early voting underway in Kermit election

KERMIT, W.Va. — Early voting kicks off Wednesday (May 29) in the Town of Kermit election. Ballots can be cast daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through June 8, including both Saturdays, officials announced in a council meeting May 20.

On Election Day, June 11, polling stations will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The canvassing of votes is slated for June 17, and certification of the election results will follow June 19. Elected officials will assume their roles July 1.

The races feature the following candidates:

For Mayor, Charles B. Sparks runs unopposed.

For the Town Council, where the top five candidates will fill available seats, incumbents Peggy Moore, Tammy Preece Hodge, J.W. Endicott and Wilburn “Hawky” Preece are seeking re-election. They are joined in the race by challengers Etta Lea Kiser, Tim Crum, Scott “Big Block” Smith, Doug Collins, Denise Williamson and Nick Spaulding.

Veteran councilwoman Anna Mae Sartin Wellman has opted not to seek another term.

In other news, the council announced the Fourth of July fireworks display will start at dark July 4.

The council also agreed to help the Cal Ripken League with the cost of replacing four lights at the ballpark.
