Willa Marie Burchett
1942—2022
Willa Marie Burchett, age 79, of Inez, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 20, 2022.
She was born Oct. 1, 1942, to the late Blanche Varney and Willie Hickman. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Rogell Burchett, one son, Elmer Lee “Cowboy” Maynard, a granddaughter, Shenna Maynard, one brother, Joe Phillips and one sister, Millie Jean Sumners.
Willa is survived by two sons, Terry (Angie) Maynard of Debord and Ronnie (Mary) Maynard of Inez, and one daughter, Estella Robyn Burchett of Inez. “Mimi” was her favorite title and she was blessed with many grandchildren: Alicia (Tim) Howard of Harlan, Shannon Hickman of London, Jennifer (Tim) Pennington of Morristown, Tenn., Kevin Hickman of London, Brandi N. Maynard Clark of Prestonsburg, Nickolas Maynard of Columbus, Ohio, Dylan (Katrina) Maynard of Paintsville, Shawna and Rogell Maynard of Lexington, Jonathan (Shawnee Hope) English of Paintsville, Tyler (Maddie Sennett) English of Paintsville, and Eugene (Courtney) Meade of Prestonsburg. She was then blessed with her great-grandchildren: Austin Hickman of London, Madison Howard of Harlan, Amorette, Rylan and Adler Hickman of London, Tyler Kirby of Middleton, Tenn., Cruiz Thomas Clark of Prestonsburg, Logan Maynard of Debord, Marcellus Peppers of Lexington, and Brixxon Mae English of Louisa. She is also survived by one brother, Wendell (Susanne) Hickman of London, and three sisters, Laura Blake, Pauline Muncy and Ocie Caudill, all of Columbus, Ohio.
Willa’s greatest role and love was serving God. She began serving the Lord in September 1986. Her heart will always be in the front row at the Inez Freewill Baptist Church.
In the days following her husband’s death, Jim and Linda Booth gave her a new purpose and passion; they picked her to socialize at Miss Ida’s Tea Room. She loved getting up and going to see her friends. While there, she adopted more people into her family. She called them daughters, brothers, friends and she loved them all: Ernestine Muncy, Paula Castle, Jim and Linda Preece, Irene and Robert Moore and Amanda Maynard.

Funeral services were Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Callaham Funeral Home, with Kevin Davis, Robert Meade and Tim Preece officiating and special words by Robyn Burchett. Burial followed at the Burchett Cemetery in Inez, under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
